The following is from a post on Facebook by a friend Steve Greenberg and I agree 1,000% with what he said:

Food For Thought #5 – I was not yet 5 years old when Martin Luther was killed, I was not yet 6 when we landed on the moon. I grew up in a world in which science and technology is cool and everyone expects to work hard to move us ALL forward. As a society it is our common goal to break down the barriers and create true equality. I grew up in a small, diverse town in which we all were aware of the older generation’s prejudices, but we didn’t share them. I remember the cold war in which we lived in the constant fear of mutual destruction. I remember unsafe cars and foods, rampant pollution, high murder rates, Vietnam and Watergate, oil embargo and crashed economy. We have made a lot of progress, but there is a long way to go. Let’s live up to Martin Luther King’ vision and get to the Promised Land- it is now within reach. Let’s follow the example of that “Great Leap for Mankind” and make Great Leaps of our own forward to where all know we should and can be. It’s right over that next hill….

We have nothing to add except to all Peace and let’s take the leap!

A Sad Day for the United States of America

SAD_USA

The New Your City Protest and other protests where the shooting took place say it all.  We need some sort of change in this GREAT Country.  President Obama spoke about it today and seems to understand what the people of the USA but Congress and the US Senate are silent.  They are to busy playing politics to stop and listen to the American people they work for who are screaming for change.

We have nothing to add except that the families of the victims are in our prayers.

Saying Goodbye to the Pound Sign (#)

poundsign The Democratic “sit-in” in the Senate Chamber to protest the fact that the Republicans will not pass any gun control laws is over after 20 some hours, and we applaud the participants for stepping up and bringing this issue to the public eye.  We did a Google search using “NRA Payments to Senators” and found several links to the millions of dollars the NRA pays to Senators, mostly Republicans.

So let’s take a few minutes away from this gun control madness and say goodbye to the “Pound Sign” (#).  The symbol is not going away, but the name “Pound Sign” is now referred to as “Hash Tag”.  We did a search and we found that it began being used on Twitter, but did not find why the name changed or who changed it.  So we can only project how the name changed.  Here is what we think:

When the “#” was first used on Twitter it was called the “Pound sign” and someone decided that calling it “Pound” was not a great name so a meeting was called at Twitter to change the name and keep the symbol.  Some of the new names were “Tic-Tac-Toe Sign”, “XO Sign”, “Squares Sign”, “Group Sign”, “Twit Sign”, and so it went on attempting to come up with a new name.  The meeting went through the night and hundreds of names were suggested but noting sounded good.  So they decided to order breakfast and when one of the guys said “Corn Beef and Hash.” Everyone at the table stopped talking and all together said “Hash” and then added “Tag”.  That’s it!  “Hash Tag”!  A vote was taken and the “#” sign will now and forever will be called a “Hash Tag”.

Because we are in the software business and when we want to describe a mask on a numeric variable like a variable A with a million mask of “#,###,##0.00” and we say “Pound Sign – Comma – Pound Sign – Pound Sign – Pound Sign – Comma – Pound Sign – Pound Sign – Zero – Period – Zero – Zero “and now we need to consider saying “Hash Tag Sign – Comma – Hash Tag Sign – Hash Tag Sign  – Hash Tag Sign  – Comma – Hash Tag sign – Hash tag Sign – Zero – Period – Zero – Zero”.  We considered it for about ten seconds and decided to stay with “Pound Sign” so it will still be alive for a few more years.  If it would have been changed to “XO Sign” we probably would have converted, but “Hash Tag” no way.

We have nothing else to add right now except we need to find a hammer so we can “hash tag” (pound) a nail in the wall to hang a picture.

Four Gun Control Laws rejected by the Senate

2nd-nraFour gun control laws were presented to the Senate on Monday and all four were “shot” down by the Republicans.  The Democrats say “It’s because the Republicans want to sell guns to ISIS.”  No surprise there, but I have not seen any response on CNN by the Republican folks about ISIS guns.

Based on what has been reported and what we have seen in the news, most of the Republicans get large donations from the NRA for campaign funds.  It seems like to us the Republicans have been anti-gun control for years anyway, so another no surprise on the gun law block.

Today the Democrats are staging a “sit-in” in congress and we applaud the Democrats for standing up and attempting to get something down about guns instead of sitting back and hoping the issue will go away.  (This s the Republican way of dealing with gun issues)

This probably will be discussed for months and taking time away form Congress and the Senate to address other issues.

Why don’t we just repeal the 2nd Amendment?  It was written 200+ years ago when it seemed needed, but now, we don’t see why it’s needed.

Here is what the 2nd Amendment says:

Passed by Congress September 25, 1789. Ratified December 15, 1791. The first 10 amendments form the Bill of Rights.  The 2nd Amendment is as follows: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

Because all the states are now in place “a well regulated Militia does not need to tend to the security of a free state.”  As far as we know all the states are free these days.

“The right of the people to keep and bear arms” is no longer needed so let’s get rid of this amendment and fee up the entire BS” going back and forth about gun control between the politicians.

Let’s let the people of the United States of America decide.  There are 318 million people in the US and about 200 million are voters.  About 3% are blocking the gun control laws and we want a majority vote to decide.  There are two ways to repeal an amendment:

The United States Constitution is unusually difficult to amend.  As spelled out in Article V, the Constitution can be amended in one of two basic ways.

First, amendment can take place by a vote of two-thirds of both the House of Representatives and the Senate followed by a ratification of three-fourths of the various state legislatures or conventions in three-fourths of the states (ratification by thirty-eight states would be required to ratify an amendment today).  This first method of amendment is the only one used to date, and in all but the case of the 21st Amendment, state ratification took place in legislatures rather than state conventions.

Second, the Constitution might be amended by a Convention called for this purpose by two-thirds of the state legislatures, if the Convention’s proposed amendments are later ratified by three-fourths of the state legislatures (or conventions in three-fourths of the states).

We go with the “Second” choice mainly because the “First” depends on Congress and the Senate and they are why we are proposing to repeal the 2nd Amendment by the people of the United Sates.  About the only way to use the 1st choice is to vote for and elect all the Democratic candidates for Congress and the Senate.  When there are a three-fourths + majority then a vote can take place.  We want gun control now so we need to get going on the appeal.  Later down the line if we can agree on a new 2nd Amendment that reflects circumstances `that exist now, we can re-instate a “new” 2nd Amendment.

We have nothing to add right now, but we will keep on top of these gun control events and report them as we see fit.  (Sam).

On your birthday,
We are thinking about how much light and sparkle
you freely dispense wherever you go,
how your sunny smile lights up any gathering.
Every birthday marks another year
of you radiating positive, happy energy,
contagious happiness
that infects all who come in contact with you.
May your next birthday find you the same–
glowing from within,
beaming bright joy on everyone you meet.
We feel blessed to know and love you.

Nothing compares to love you radiate and the dreams you inspire.
