Macy Thanksgiving Day Parade – The End of Tradition 2018

For many years the Macy’s Day Parade had been our family tradition, where we all gather to watch the parades and enjoy the experience.

The last few years though, we have seen a change.  Who was the genius who decided to start the TV coverage with song routines from Broadway Shows?   This might be of interest to New Yorkers, but to anyone else it total BS.  To the children it’s like going on long trip by car and one of them has to pee, they start asking “When are we going to stop?  I have to go to the bathroom” over and over until we stop. When the Broadway routines start the children start saying “When is this going to be over?  We want to tee the parade!”.  Several adults chimed in too this year.  We all agreed last year if this is part of the TV viewing then this will be the end of a family tradition and we can just as easy take a long car trip.

This year the TV presentation was one LONG commercial; from the second it started to the second it ended.  First we have the Broadway Play commercials for the various plays.  But this year was special.  Yes folks, this year to some we had a controversy.  At the end of the Prom Play two women kissed.  It was not a short kiss, like is passing, it was fairly long and a bit passionate.  We smiled and though great, finally they are bold enough to show what life is really about. But to the billions of conservative families all over the world we could feel the horror of the parents when the children all said “Mommy!  You told us that girls never kiss girls!  Mom!  You lied to us!”  Nothing the parents could say would wipe the image out of the children’s minds and later when guests arrive to enjoy dinner, the children would greet them with “Did you see the two girls kissing?” The parents knew that this would be an ongoing for a very long time.  Todays news has some people pissed off  and others happy that this was included.  (We are happy)

After the Broadway Play commercials and in watching the parade we noticed that every float had some obscure singer on the float promoting their latest song release and lip syncing badly as the song blasted out.  Some of our children even noticed that the words did not match the mouth and we all laughed.  True there were two notables singing. Early in the parade Kelly Clarkson was on a float and Diana Ross later on.  All these years we though Diana was six feet under.  So at least we were informed she was alive and “well”.   Diana at first did not have a microphone in her hand and wasn’t singing even though her song was blasting out.  Then she started lip syncing but her hair was being flipped over her face so we could only see her lips moving.

Of course not only did every singer get in a commercial, but the sponsor of every float got a full minute commercial about their product line.  Then of course the TV station (NBC) had to do their official commercials along with everything else.  We remembered a time when the parade was commercial free and the entire event was aimed at families, but that must have been in a place far, far, away and in s different dimension.  Moving on there were commercial free bands from all over the country.  These were the only participants that were commercial free.  We always look for the balloons of various characters that of course had promotions going on, but we mentally tuned them out and enjoyed seeing the traditional characters and which ones were new.  Finally we saw Santa off in the distance and we knew the torture would soon be over.  When the announcer, said “And here is Santa arriving”, click when the remote and we were done.  By the way, we noticed that the announcers these days we usually people from early morning TV shows.  There was a time when “real stars” from TV did the TV announcing but now, all they do is sit there and read commercial scripts.

We made a point of watching the “live” broadcast, and there was only one in our area on NBC. There were years when there were multiple, but not this year which might indicate that the popularity was waning.  We did notice that later in the day several channels were rerunning the parade and we wondered if the “Girl kiss” was edited out.”

So now our tradition has been whittled down to one parade.  That is the New Years Day Rose Parade that does not have Broadway Play promotions as of last year, and basically commercial free.  It’s okay with us that the float sponsors get talked about, because there is usually a story about each one.  The spectators are another story because the “true blue” ones usually camp overnight on the parade route or near as they can get and they usually get interviewed by roving reporters.  Everyone is welcome at the Rose Parade.

We wish all of our followers had a happy holiday and enjoyed Black Friday Shopping.  We will wait with excitement to see what you will be sending us later in the season (Joke).  We hope you make a point to donate some of that cash that you saved to various charity organizations.  Ours this year is to the forest fire victims that lost everything.

We have nothing else to report at this time except to thank everyone who voted in the USA mid-term election and to those outside of the USA thank you for taking the time to come to the USA and vote (Joke for Donnie).  Have a safe weekend and hope to see you soon.  By the way, we once attended the Pasadena Do Dah Parade and that at that time was held on Thanksgiving.  We rented a Winnebago and parked right on the parade route.  We had a blast.

Belief System / Meditation / Notes and Hints

We are following up on our last post because several folks asked us to clarify whet we meant be getting rid of the past memories to get to the “now”.

Interesting because this was our biggest challenge and once we got past the challenge everything fell into place.

What to get rid of is making decisions in the “now” based on decisions from the past.  When you made a decision in the past it immediately changed and is no long valid in the “now”.  In our “Quit Smoking “post there are several examples.  Hers is one, in the past when we were working and came to a decision that required some thought, we would go have a cigarette to think it over.  When that decision scenario happens now, the past solution is no longer valid so we stop, take three deep breaths and “in our head” we welcome the urge for a cigarette and say to the “thought/urge” you can hang around if you choose, but we are going to do a mindfulness meditation for the next few minutes.  The “urge” passes and because we treated it by creating a new solution, the next time a decision is needs the urge no longer comes.

More important is anything you are hanging on to in the past, like anger over a divorce or you best friend running off with your girl friend or an argument that you want to be “right” about and are constantly think about these in the now, so you are giving energy to an Illusion.  As long as you continue to give energy by thinking about the situation from the past, then you will be chasing the “now” because you stuck in the past.  We happen to know someone who is still holding a grudge from 1999 and making major decisions based on that situation, when in fact everything about the situation has changed in the “now” reality.  He is still stuck back in 1999 and we have moved on, but we understand that it’s his choice and we honor his choice.  We have forgiven him and continue to pray for him, but we have moved on.  Anything you are hanging on to in the past only you can resolve the situation.  Forgive your ex-girlfriend and of ex-wife and the guy that might have run taken them away from you.  Forgive your mom for spanking you in front of your friends.  Forgive your fourth grade buddy who passed your love note on to that cute blonde girl in your class when he in fact said he would not.  Anything you can that you are hanging on to in the past that requires you to take action to clear it from your mind.  You will feel a huge weight have been lifted when you complete each and finally you will feel freedom.  You can use mediation and visualization to complete this task, because you only have yourself and The Universe to answer too.  Being true to your self is mandatory.  If you’re living a lie then or still stuck in the past, then the “now” will be a constant chase.

Do keep the good times and be sure to share with others, but don’t dwell or live anything from the past.  Remind yourself that your only reality is “Now” and the past and future are both illusions. Know and trust that The Universe will show and guide you on your path.

We talk abut achieving a clear mind and when you get to the “now” and maintain being in the “now” your mind will be clear.  Why do you wish to have a clear mind?  It’s because when The Universe presents you with a solution of an intent that your requested a month or two ago, you will see it or know it.  Let’s say your mate dumped you a few months ago and you asked (Intent) The Universe for a mate that is of the same mindset as you.  So today you are catching a plane at SFO and you’re making your way to the gate though a huge crowd when your eyes meet another person in the crowd and fireworks go off in your head and you just know “this is my future girl/boy friend”.  Now your eyes can only meet if your head is not staring at your IPhone. The Universe is coming through, but you’re not doing your part by playing “Candy Crush”.  Got it?

Maintain a clear mind by getting rid of everyday negative energy, be mindful of what you say and how you say it, keep your Chakra’s in balance, share your experiences with others, and have fun with the “new” you.  It does take some work, but the growth and living in bliss by far is one of the greatest rewards.  Being creative and sharing with others is why we are here.  Everything you dream about is here for you.  Do the work and go find it.  The journey will constantly amaze you and you will grow beyond your wildest dreams.

We have nothing else to add at this time and we send blessings out to all of you.  We do thank Amanda and all of our subscriptions both old and new for being the inspiration for our last two posts.

Gaba’s Easter Egg Hunt – Blast from the Past 2009

Filed under: Family — alaboutnothing @ 1:36 am

The town we live in announced an Easter Egg Hunt to be held Saturday from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM at the main park in town.  They also mentioned the gate would open at 12:30 PM.  I thought “Gate?  Why a gate and why 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM?  How long does it take to pick up a few Easter Eggs?”  Little did I know that when we arrived at 12:30 PM it was not just an Easter Egg Hunt, it was a free festival for the kids.

They had Crafts, Face Painting, a live band, refreshments, kids rides, pictures with the East Bunny, and not one Easter Egg Hunting area, but three.  Each “hunt” area was by the child’s age.  The “Pink” area was for ages 1-4, “Orange was for ages 5-7, and “Blue” for ages 8 and older.  What was good was Gaba was rated for the “Pink” Egg Hunting area and that was opened when the gate was open.  The other areas opened at 1:30 PM.  So we went straight to the “Pink” area and Gaba started filling her basket.  There was a limit to six eggs per child, but they also had containers of candy to accompany the eggs.  She was so excited that she was beaming from era to era.  After she filled up her basket we started going to all the other sections.  Gaba had a Lady Bug painted on her cheek, and then we went for a picture with the Easter Bunny, which Gaba refused, but her mom and grandma had one taken.

When it was close to 1:30 I went over to the area where the older kids were going to do the hunt.  There were hundreds of kids “chomping at the bit” to get through that gate to get to those eggs.  Each of the older kid areas had 4,000 eggs scattered over about a football field.  Then the announcer did a count down from 10 and when the gate opened a river of kids dashed in to each area.  They were running all over the place and jamming up in the front scrambling for eggs.  The smart ones ran past the front to the back of the field where nobody was going and got there fill of eggs without a hassle.  Within 10-15 minutes there was not an egg to be found.  The late comers were told to go to the main stage to get their eggs, but they missed the excitement of the “hunt”.

We hung around checking out all the booths until about 3:00 PM and then started home.

It was a great weekend and nothing could please me more than the smile on Gaba’s face.

The 75th Golden Globe Awards – 2018

The Golden Globes is our favorite “award” show because its more of a celebration of the free press and the entertainment industry.  We celebrate the press everyday because they bring us the truth in the news they report daily at all levels.  Or president (Lower case on purpose) says it fake news, but since whats his name is a fake president we consider the source.

Tonight was a celebration of the Women!  From the fist moment to the end of the show, the powerful women were praising all the women in history who choose to speak their truth even when it might place them in peril.

I have been saying for years that we need women to take over this country because in 200 years the men have totally messed it up.  Look at the corruption in politics, and the guy at the top is an embarrassment that other countries laugh at. The “new” Womens Moment (Revolution) started gathering energy decades ago, but it took the guts of some real women heroes to bring the mens harassment, abuse, and overall degrading treatment of women by men to the current news screen.   We hope tonight is the “kick-off” of the moment taking charge and making changes for a better world.  Yes world, because its not just a USA issue, its a world issue.  Some of the other countries “get it”, they have women leaders. Maybe women have been to nice?  If they would just stop and think they would know that if they want change they have four words that could make it happen immediately. The words are “I have a headache”. Followed by “If you touch me I will call 911!” They have the power just as everyone does, but we want and will support then in anyway we can.

The highlight was Oprah getting the Cecil B De-mill Award and we have followed Oprah back in the days in Chicago when she was a cub reporter.   She brought her awesome power with her tonight and put forth an eye opening speech that had us cheering while we watched.  Oprah spread her power around and tonight she shared it with the world.  Yes the room was filled with powerful women and men and she brought forth what her prediction that its time to make the corrupt accountable and women will lead the way.  It was a beautiful moment and all the attendees cheered.  Our conclusion to all this is we think that Oprah should be our next President and her Vice President should be Michele Obama.  Two of the most powerful women in the USA.  They would make it happen and we would be a far better country for it.

We have nothing else to report except that we hope all of our great followers are using the meditations we have been posting.  We are listening to a Crown Chakra video as we place our words on this post.  Followed by Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars (Ellen Show)

Michael Jackson’s music lives on with “Xscape”

hqdefault It looks like Michael Jackson’s music will be with us for a very long time.  With the recent release of the  “Xscape” album that is being pushed as music Micheal never released, and was left on the shelf.   The guy was a genius and always will be the one who changed music forever and now this song is sounding pretty good.  We though it was odd having Justin Timberlake in the video even though we like his music, he is not even close to M.J.

The song is “Never Felt So Good”   <<Click here for  the video>>

We wonder where the album cover came from? A creative photo-shop employee or Michael had a vision and looked into the future and thought “Just in case I might need this someday I will take a picture to use as an album cover.”  We wonder?

The next few weeks will be busy in the music reality show world with The Voice (Best music reality show on TV) coming to the final soon and American Idol (The show that started it all) has a final coming soon.  When The Voice completes America’s Got Talent starts.  We will surely miss The Voice and will be looking forward to the new season with the two new judges.

We have nothing else right now except to say we hope you enjoyed “Never Felt So Good”.  We did.

On your birthday,
I’m thinking about how much light and sparkle
you freely dispense wherever you go,
how your sunny smile lights up any gathering.
Every birthday marks another year
of you radiating positive, happy energy,
contagious happiness
that infects all who come in contact with you.
May your next birthday find you the same–
glowing from within,
beaming bright joy on everyone you meet.
I feel blessed to know and love you.

Nothing compares to love you radiate and the dreams you inspire.

I love You

Candy Land Marathon

Candyland delux

This Memorial Day weekend Discovery Channel had their “Deadliest Catch” marathon, History Channel had their “Band of Brothers” marathon and we have our 1st annual Candy Land marathon.

A few months ago we purchased Candy Land for Gaba and she took to it immediately.  She not only wanted to play the game every waking moment, but after three days she wanted to change the rules.

The basic point of the game is to pick cards with color pictures and move your marker to the next matching color square on the path to the Candy Land Castle at the top of the game board.  If there are two colors on the card you pick, then you move to the first color square and then on to the next color square along the path. Then there are “gift” cards that have a picture that match strategically placed squares with the same picture on the path.  If you pick one of these then you move your marker either forward or backward to the matching square of the picture on the card.  The “gift” cards are Gaba’s favorite cards even if it means going backwards on the board.  As each card is used it is discarded in to the used stack and not used again unless s re-shuffle was required to continue the game.  Click here for full description.

The rule change Gaba wanted was the “gift” cards went right back in to the “picking” stack and were not discarded.  So we tried a few games and we found that it increased the game completion time buy about 80%.

The marathon however was played under the original Candy Land rules.

Each of us picked our playing piece (marker) and I used the King Kandy, grandma used Mr. Mint, Gaba’s mom used Lolly and Gaba used the Princess Frostine.  We started Saturday morning at 9:00 AM and continued on until 8:00 PM.  Then started again Sunday morning about 9:00 AM and finished at 5:00 PM.  We played 96 full games, only stopping for food, potty, and sanity breaks.  Of the 96 games Gaba won 30, Gaba’s mom won 25, grandma won 23, and I won 18.

A good time was had by all and first thing tomorrow morning we are teaching Gaba how to play the card game “war”.  With the fourth of July coming up soon another marathon may be in order and we want to keep it simple and numeric.

I have nothing more to add except that I now have a craving for Gum Drops.

Wheel of Fortune Challenged

WofF

We have been watching Wheel of Fortune for many years and still watch it almost every day. When I watch I am usually watching with my wife and she is a word “guru”.  My wife has been known to solve the word puzzles without any letters posted on the board.  She did this just last week on a final puzzle.  This totally amazes me.

Now I sit there and struggle with every puzzle even though once in awhile when the wife is out of the room, manage to solve the puzzle before the contestant.  Sometimes when I am watching alone and getting close to solving, my wife will walk in to the room, glance at the TV screen, pause for two seconds and she solves the puzzle.  Ugh!

So in order to “beef” up my word association I secretly started playing “Text Twist” on Yahoo.  In this game they give you several letters and you move the letters to boxes to make words.  In order to continue your game you need to make a word that uses all the letters.  The other words are just bonuses to your score.  It has helped, but just last week I was playing and my daughter just happened to walk by and as she passed she told me the answer without missing a step. Ugh!

So now when we watch the “Wheel” I sit quietly and listen to my wife and daughter verbally working out the answer.  If for some reason the answer pops in to my head like a flash from divine intervention, I will blurt out the answer.  This doesn’t happen very often but when it does it makes my day.

I will continue to do the “Text Twist” if for no other reason than to beat my high score of 38,000.  I don’t remember how I did it, but can only assume a computer glitch had something to do with it.

At this point I will stop at “nothing” to continue my pursuit of learning more words.

A Gaba Morning

Filed under: Family — alaboutnothing @ 7:25 pm

Almost every morning when I am starting my day I get a cup of coffee and sit at my P/C to read the news and check my email.  As I am sitting at my P/C focused on reading the events of the day I hear a voice say “Papa, are you busy?”  The voice is from Gaba (My 3 year old grand-daughter) and I think she knows that even if I was doing heart surgery I would put everything on hold to answer her question.  I turn to Gaba and say, “I am never too busy for you.”  Gaba the says, “Can we go see The Puppy of the day?”  I say, “Sure.”  Then I get up off my chair so Gaba can sit in it and kneel down next to her.  I minimize the screen I was just looking at and then bring up my “iGoogle” .

The theme on my “iGoogle” is a park and Gaba likes to see what’s happening in the park.  This theme changes depending on what time of the day you are looking at it.  In the morning there are joggers, in the afternoon there are children playing, and at night the sky is dark and the park is empty.

Then on my “iGoogle” I had three “Apps” just for Gaba.  The first one we visit is “The Daily Puppy”.  Gaba moves the mouse to the picture and clicks on it. (Sample click here) A new window opens and she maximizes the window and I tell he the name of the puppy and read the description to her.  We then scroll down looking at all the pictures.  The, on the same window, Gaba clicks on “Today’s grown up puppy” and we go through the same process.  When we are done, we close the window and return to the “iGoogle” screen where we visit the next two “Apps” “My Pony” and “My Pig”.  On both of these “apps” there is a little box at the top of each and when you click on the box it places a piece of food in that box.  The “Pony” trots over to the food and “eats” it and the “Pig” flies over to the food “eats” it.  Then we are done and we close the window.

Now we move on to “Word” so Gaba can do some typing.  I set the document format to “Arial” and the size to 72.  Gaba then makes sure the “Caps Lock” is on because she likes only capital letters.  I must say that when we first started doing this she would randomly hit keys on the keyboard, but now Gaba will say “I want to spell my name, Gabrielle”.  I then say the letters out load and she types each one. When she is done I say “next line” and she hits the “Enter” key.  She will then ask for other words and we go though the same process.  Just before we are done, I point to some of the words she has typed and ask her what it spells.  She usually correctly answers on each word I ask about.  When she is done, she clicks on the “printer” icon and prints today’s entries.  She then goes over to the printer and gets the print out, then takes it and hangs up with the others.

Gaba then will say “Thank you Papa.” and go about her day with her mom.

Nothing can replace this time I spend with Gaba.
