PGA Golf Tour – The Open and Tiger Woods is Back

We have been following Tiger Woods since he started his professional career and now that he is back and kicking butt, we are back watching.  While he was gone we turned to NASCAR, but that proved to be boring and since Dale Jr. left and NASCAR attempted to make Austin Dillon the new young hero so we found it to be like watching WWF.  We found ourselves when watching NASCAR switching over to the TV Test Pattern for some excitement. Then one day we discovered the LPGA, yes we have seen the listing but never have stopped to watch.  So we figured it either the test pattern or ladies golf, so we went and watched the golf and to our surprise we enjoyed the playing and we are now following several players on Twitter.  Then Tiger came back and the LPGA became part time. and usually we watched repeats.

This weekend is the Open at Carnoustie Championship Course in England.  Now this becomes a challenge to watch because of the time zone difference. We want to see Tiger tee of on round 3 so we need to get up at 5:00 AM PST to see him tee off at 5:15 AM PST.  Now of course we could sleep later and watch the rerun, but we are true fans and we want to it live on TV.  The last time we got up at 5:00 AM PST was to watch the Hindenburg land in New Jersey in a different life.  Yes and it was worth getting up then and hopefully it will this time also.  Because today is Saturday part of the TV telecast will be on the Golf Channel and then later on NBC.  Early morning will be Golf Channel.

So we have a few questions about the commentators on the Golf Channel.  How come when one of the commentators says something good about a player, the other commentator always follows with something negative about the same player on camera?  Well not always, but 90% of the time.  For example:  1st Guy – You know that Happy Gilmore once played a full eighteen holes with a baseball bat and rake.  He broke the course record with a 62 score.  2nd Guy – Yes but ten years earlier he tried the same thing at the Players Tournament and they found that the rake was to long and he got disqualified.  Then something else they do is try to guess what the player that is on camera is going to do, which they are pretty good at and today, one of them guessed wrong and admitted it.  Yes!  He admitted it and we were blown away.  AT least when Tiger plays they make a point of showing his shots.

So we do have some questions about the clothing the players wear.  99% of the players wear baseball hats, but we noticed the some of tee guys wear the “bill” of the hat flat like they pulled it out of the wrapper and put on.  Then there are some that take the time to shape the “bill” so it curves almost to a half moon.  Then there are the ones in between.  Is this some kind of player identification?  Ricky Fowler is usually a flat hat.  Phil Mickelson is usually an in between, and Tiger is a full moon.  Bubba Watson wears one of those visors, so that leads to several other questions.  Maybe someone who knows about hats will respond to this post.

Then there are the people that came to watch.  Of course Tiger draws most of the people and he has a massive crowd following him.  If you look over the crowd you will see people walking and they going in several different directions.  Some are on the cart path walking is opposite directions, some are cutting across the grass away from where the camera is.  Where are all these people going?  It’s like a conveyor belt moving products around a warehouse.  It’s mostly ladies with children and very slow moving senior citizens.  The maintenance people ride around in golf carts like they are on a mission, but what kind of mission would warrant thousands of golf carts maneuvering all over kingdom come? Maybe some are security to bust those fans that take a picture or shout out “It’s in the hole” right when a player is hitting the golf ball.  This really pisses of the player and they usually turn and stare at the person who did the deed.

Now there was a surprise yesterday when they played some video of Phil Mickelson breaking the rules.  He hit a putt and it missed and was rolling down a hill.  Phil ran after the ball and hit it back before it stopped rolling. We were amazed that Phil would do this. Then they showed some other times he stretched the rules. This was like a rookie like me back when I was attempting to play golf.  It was a long time ago in a land far-far away but I wasn’t playing for millions of dollars and I was playing alone so no one knew.  My down fall was water.  When I stood on a tee getting ready to hit a ball, if there was water in front of me, I could hear it saying “Why even try to hit that ball?  You know I will soon be enjoying the pleasure of eating it!”  I kept the water well fed and then finally I lost it after hitting three balls in the water.  I they my three iron in the water and walked off the course never to play again.

So now we are checking our junk food closet to make sure we have enough chips and Gold Fish to get through Tigers next round.  Not to many stores open at 5:00 AM.

Oh we wanted to mention that Tiger was wearing a “KT Bandage” on his neck.  It looked like it went from just below his hair line down his back. The reason being that the bed he was sleeping on was hard and he did not like the pillow.  You would think that Tiger would have someone take care of moving his favorite pillow from place to place, but we guess not.  It seems that when the TV viewers saw the “TK” they went out and bought the tape.  The commentators mentioned that “TK” stock went noticeable up the day before.  “Tiger Power”

We have nothing else to report at this time except to thank all of our supporters that stop by here.  God bless you and have a safe weekend.
